Athlete Of The Month: Jenny Rodriguez

Jenny has been with Humble CrossFit since the beginning of this year and has made incredible progress. Jenny is constantly encouraging others and working on her skills and strength to become a better athlete. Read more about her below! 

Q: Who are you and what do you do? 
A: I am the mother of two amazing little boys and married to a Marine. I am in the service industry while attending school to hopefully become a nurse very soon.

Q: What is your athletic background?
A: I was in cross country during high school because of my love for running. It was a way to help me stay in shape during the soccer off season. I played soccer all throughout middle and high school and even received a scholarship to play for a private university in Austin. 

Q: What made you join CrossFit?
A: I had a friend who worked at a CrossFit box who invited me to come check it out. Unfortunately, due to complications with an umbilical hernia, I was only able to attend for a few weeks before having surgery to repair the hernia. After recovery, I found a new home at Humble CrossFit.

Q: What does CrossFit mean to you and how do you stay motivated?
A: CrossFit means pushing myself to become a better person and learning how to be physically and mentally strong. I stay motivated by focusing on reaching goals I have not yet met. 

Q: What is your favorite movement?
A: My favorite movements are power cleans and kettle bell swings because I have noticed my improvement doing these two exercises. They are my own little motivation to make the same progress for other movements. 

Q: What is your least favorite movement?
A: At the moment my least favorite movements are front squats and over head squats because i struggle with keeping correct form. I am trying to stay persistent to improve on these!! 

Q: What are your goals for the next year?
A: My goal is to definitely build the strength in my upper body so that I can work my way to advanced movements like muscle ups. If a six pack comes along with that it would be nice! 

Q: What has been your favorite moment/accomplishment so far?
A: My favorite accomplishment so far has been being able to complete wall walks! My very first attempt I felt like they were impossible, but I was able to make my way up! They still challenge me, but I am no longer scared of them. 

Q: What is your favorite cheat meal? 
A: I am a Latina, spicy food is a must! Tacos and hot cheetos are my weakness. 

Q: Do you have any advice for people hesitant to try CrossFit or for those struggling with their fitness goals?
A: My advice for people hesitant is to just try it out and learn to push yourself. Everyone in the gym is there for the same reason as you are; to get better and to work hard. No matter what level you start at, we will all feel that same accomplishment at the end of a work out! It is a place of no judgement and we all show up pumped and ready to encourage other.
