For the month of May, we would like to recognize our long time member Elena for her strength, compassion, progress, and postive attitude. Every day she encourages others, puts in hard work, and never stops trying to be the best version of herself.
Elena is even more inspiring in that she battles a heart condition that largely goes unnoticed, due to the fact that she would never let you know she's not feeling 100%. Taking control of her health and using fitness to offset the effects of her illness is an incredible task that Elena handles in stride. We're proud to have you, Elena! Read more about her below!
I am a proud mommy of three beautiful little monsters :) Angela, Giselle and Jayden. They are my world!!! I am currently an Admissions Advisor at MIAT College of Technology and I love doing what I do!
Since I was very little I have always LOVED playing sports. I have played basketball, volleyball and my favorite, SOCCER. I have always had a passion for fitness. I love anything that challenges me. My friend Aaron brought me to Humble CrossFit to try a class and I was hooked from day one!
CrossFit means everything to me. It is more than just doing what I have a passion for and more than challenging myself on a daily basis; It has truly been a life saver. I know it may sound exaggerated, but it is the truth. I struggle with a heart condition and more than medication, working out has been what has kept me away from regular visits to the Emergency Room. Yes, I have moments where I struggle with my condition, but CrossFit is truly what makes the difference for me. That in itself is my motivation; To stay as healthy as I can for my kids. It can get extremely tough at times, but pushing through and feeling normal while I am working out is so worth it for me. It is then when I can feel somewhat like any other person and forget for a bit that I do battle with my illness day to day.
My favorite movement has become double unders! I could not get them no matter how much I tried, but I kept practicing and stayed persistant and now they are easy for me! However, my least favorite movement would probably be over head squats... UGH!!!!! >.<
My goal for the next year is to become better for the next Open. I also want to be able to connect more chest to bar and toes to bar... those movements still give me a hard time.
My favorite moment at Humble CrossFit has to be when I climbed the rope for the first time! Well, I have many favorite moments, but that was something I dreaded doing because I thought I'd never get it, but I did! (Yes Alex, meeting you was also a favorite memory....hahahaha)
OMG! My favorite cheat meal.. Where do I start?! I LOVE pastries and ice cream! Those are definitely hard to stay away from.
My advice to those that are intimidated or just not sure about trying CrossFit would be to simply do it. You will never know how much you can accomplish or how far you can go if you don't try! I fell in love with CrossFit from day one and I guess my love for it and how amazing it makes me feel is something I want everyone to experience. It has truly been the best choice I've made for myself!
